CHRISTMAS, CELEBRATING THE GRACE OF GOD.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year and history has it that even in time of war soldiers down the guns and artilleries and pause the war just for Christmas celebration. Without debate about time or season when Christ was born or what we celebrate at Christmas, whether it was previously a day of a pagan festival, let us summarise and agree that whatever it was, here and now 25th December is set aside undoubtedly to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. What I want to point out in this message is the fact that we should let all people celebrate. The reason is that some may say people are just spending money and buying unnecessary gifts for something that they do not know the purpose. If you are a Christian and you are speaking like that, you should please study the birth of Jesus carefully and we will share some of it. If you are not a Christian and you do not see why there should be so much pomp about Christmas, then as we go along, you will see that it can’t be any other way. It is not because somebody was too wise or too charismatic and suddenly came up with the idea of celebrating Christ. Let us know straightaway that apart from Christians, Muslims do acknowledge Jesus. There is nothing new under the earth. What we see today is no chance finding, it is something that has been ordained by God to be fulfilled in the ages to come. When you see people exchanging pleasantries, gifts, making peace, reconciling and showing love for the vulnerable and going the extra mile even when they are not getting a pat on the back for it, know that it is GRACE at work. GOD is Grace on Display. I will explain with the Holy Scripture, the infallible word of the Most High God. At the end, you will see reason why you should receive Jesus into your heart and have a personal relationship with Him, the greatest gift of Christmas as you celebrate.

Luke 2

⁷And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

⁸And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

⁹And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

¹⁰AND THE ANGEL SAID UNTO THEM, FEAR NOT: FOR, BEHOLD, I BRING YOU GOOD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY, WHICH SHALL BE TO ALL PEOPLE.

¹¹For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

¹²And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

¹³And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

¹⁴GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST, AND ON EARTH PEACE, GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN.

As a new Christian, I used to join others in saying people just celebrate Christmas without knowing the meaning. Later I discovered from God’s word that Christmas is one of the greatest move of God and His grace that people from all races, works and lifestyle would just abandon all including their bitterness, grumpiness and fights and become merry gentlemen, ladies, guys and gals, good boys and girls for this occasion. The prophets who prophesied the coming of Jesus desired and searched earnestly to experience the day or time of Jesus Christ but fortunately it happened in our time that we are celebrating this Lord and Saviour that the whole of the Old Testament was about, which is to bring us to Christ.

Now look closely at verse 10. It says behold (look, see) I, God almighty bring you GOOD TIDINGS of GREAT JOY. Now just pause for a while. Joy on its own is a display of pomp with reckless abandon not caring what anyone thinks. I will use an example of someone winning a million pounds in the lottery. He just jumps, pop the champagne, opens his heart to anyone and everyone and buys drink for everyone without even noticing how many people or what it may cost. That is JOY. However, GREAT JOY is different. This kind of joy is not localised. It is a type that is noised abroad. I will use the case of the miners that were found alive after many days in Chile in November 2010 and it was broadcasted worldwide. That would be great joy. Verse 10 not only said great joy, it says this great joy shall be to ALL PEOPLE. See it right there, behold it with your spiritual eye or 6th sense. So what you are seeing on earth today with people celebrating without a clue why they are doing it is a prophetic fulfilment of what God spoke at the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Every word God speaks shall come to pass including the words in the book of Revelation concerning the end time. Spiritually, people of all nations, tribes and tongues celebrate Jesus every day, but truth is parallel, so on the physical side, people are celebrating Jesus in line with God’s will as He has purposed it and hence prophesied it to shepherds keeping flocks at night in the fields away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and cities.

Verse 11 says for unto US is born this day – Christ the Lord. So Christ is born unto all people of the earth, no matter what colour, class or east or west, north or south. Since Christ is born unto you, celebrate Him now at Christmas but God wants you to also celebrate Him daily in your hearts when you receive Him into your heart as a personal Lord and Saviour and begin having a loving relationship with Him according to His word.

Now let us seal this and conclude with verse 14. It says people on earth should give glory or hail or praise the Lord including the heavens but right here on earth make peace and GOODWILL towards men. What is good will? Good will can be gifts, kindness or gesture of kindness etc. So apart from great rejoicing, eating and drinking (though I do not encourage drinking alcohol so people do not get drunk) it is not out of place to give gifts or do good to men during the period of Christmas. So even when you cannot understand why people are so joyful at Christmas, just bless them.

CHRISTMAS – FOLLOW THE STAR OF JESUS

As we celebrate Christmas, let us bear in our heart that it is the birth of Jesus Christ the Saviour of mankind that we all celebrate. According to the gospel in Matthew’s account the wise men came saying that Jesus was born King of the Jews. Now this was a threat to Herod who was king at the time probably based in the capital city, Jerusalem. He and the whole of Jerusalem was troubled. He was troubled because he thought this Jesus who is Lord would be after his earthly throne, chase him out and crown Himself King of the Jews. The whole Jerusalem was troubled as you will see in later scriptures. The whole Jerusalem knew that if Herod was vexed, the whole people especially the colonised Jews were in trouble. Indeed that was the outcome. He tried to kill Jesus by killing everyone under 2 years. He was that cruel and ruthless.

Know that the wise men were led by God through a STAR. Jesus is the Bright and Morning Star. The wise men saw the star of Jesus in the east and followed that star to Jerusalem. However, instead of continuing to follow the star which God gave to lead them, they started to confer with flesh and blood. In doing this, not only were they almost distracted, they put Jesus in danger because they stopped a while to work with their head rather than follow what the Lord has shown them by revelation.

The star would have led them to Jesus. The wise men had a purpose, to follow the star to come to Jesus and worship Him. Now in the course of asking in that community “where is He that was born King of the Jews” Herod got wind of it and he was troubled. The main reason he was troubled was the word King. I realised long ago that God does not mince or misuse words. Every word is used for a reason. If the wise men had just mentioned that somebody is born, Herod would not even notice. Many are born daily but this one was born King. As far as Herod was concerned, there is no other king in the area or nation but him. This was a very serious matter. Herod as a Roman king over that region was to dominate, subdue and foil any rebellion. So Herod gathered the religious leaders. This is one of the ways the enemy works. He would use church or religious leaders, who know the scriptures back and forth but devoid of the grace of God or the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ which is the power of God unto salvation. The religious leaders knew the prophecies, knew that Jesus would come and the place where He would be born and even referred to Him as Governor, yet they did not have a revelation of Jesus who was right in their midst. It took wise men from the Far East by the revelation of God to leave their region, leave their business and travel miles following a star to see Jesus. The religious leaders did not have a revelation of Jesus. Before now the rumblings were there right in the region because Joseph and Mary, Elizabeth and Zachariah were all part of the religious community at the time. Even Zachariah was a priest who burnt incense in the temple and Joseph was known to be engaged to Mary who when she was pregnant with Jesus, Joseph tried to put away privately so as not to make her a public example. So we can establish that the whole community knew. However, like Amy Grant sang, “the people could not see what Messiah ought to be”. The religious leaders did not know Him and indeed they ended up crucifying Him. Note that even when the religious leaders have given Herod the prophetic, they themselves were not quickened to search for the King. Herod had to go back to the wise men who had the revelation and were seeking Jesus not their own business or affairs but Jesus. Guess what, they did travel through rough and thick and Herod’s threat following the star of Grace but they eventually found Him and worshipped Him alone – Halleluya!

Herod told the wise men to bring back news when they have seen so he can also come and worship Him. That was the purpose God gave the wise men ie to worship Him and Herod said the same. Today we have people who genuinely worship God for who He is from their hearts, others worship Him for what they can get from Him, while others just use Him for advantage.  Many others worship God yet like Herod do not acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ saying He was just one of the prophets, a good man. As we celebrate Christmas, let us seek the Lord, until we find Him and worship Him only.

The wise men realised their errors. Instead of following the original star God showed them by His Spirit through the angels right through, they had conferred with flesh and blood, may be even the prophetic leaders. However they recovered after they heard Herod who was actually planning to kill the star but pretend to worship or rejoice and looked to the star again, the original lead of God for them. Peter said we have a more sure word and that scripture is not for any private interpretation. God is raising a generation of those who will seek His face and find Him and not be distracted by flesh and blood. Please don’t get me wrong, we need men but God will by His grace raise the few “wise men” that will genuinely see and follow the STAR. Glory be to God, the wise men followed the star and searched until the star brought them to the Lord. They found Him. As we celebrate Christmas we will continue to seek Him daily until we find Him and worship Him from our hearts not just by what others say. The Holy Spirit, the star of Jesus on earth today is in us as we receive Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. He will help us to seek and find Him, he will give us a revelation of Jesus so we can preach Him and not ourselves. He will give us a revelation of Jesus that will stir us up to a revolution of preaching Christ, the hope and power of salvation. He will stir us up to be Kingdom minded instead of just our own box.

When a man is born again, he becomes a king and a priest, not by our efforts but by the Grace of God. In the same way, when we are born again in Christ, filled with the Holy Ghost it is like the star of Christmas. Few like the wise men will accept genuinely but many including religious leaders will reject. So as you worship and celebrate Jesus at Christmas, follow the STAR, Jesus by faith and by faith see the star of Christ in everyone especially believers in Christ and give gifts and cards and greetings in whatever way and every way. ²Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

³When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

⁴And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

¹¹And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS

YOU ARE A SHINING STAR

As we have seen and learnt in CHRISTMAS 2 Cybergospel article, the STAR of Jesus appeared when He was born and God revealed it to a few wise men. However, they were distracted from following the star for a brief period and conferred with flesh and blood. Not only that it distracted them for a while, it put Jesus in danger as Herod plan to kill Him. Also the whole region was in trouble because the devil fights ruthlessly and so all the young children 2 years and below according to the time that the religious leaders of the day explained to Herod from the scripture were killed. It was a vicious period with wailing, mourning and shouting but we thank and give glory to God that He has turned that to time of great joy and good will towards men. Halleluya! Now how does this apply to us today? When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you are a star. Not only that the whole of heaven rejoice but they of the household of faith will also rejoice. However, there will also be those that the devil will use likr Herod to oppose, criticise or even try to kill the star in you. The devil can also use situations, circumstances, sickness, persecution, joblessness, war or even disaster to try and kill the star. You may ask, how a whole nation can go to war because of a star. Well it is the way the devil fights. He can use a sledge hammer to kill a fly. Herod killed all the children in a country just to ensure Jesus is killed. All male babies were also condemned to be killed in Egypt but God intervened in the case of Moses. Wise men still seek Jesus because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. As a wise person seeking after the STAR of Jesus, become kingdom of God minded, preach the gospel wherever you are and whatever you do. Keep seeking the Lord and take your pulpit with you everywhere. The church is not the four walls but the people. So when I say pulpit, I do not mean that you have to be in four walls with congregation and a pulpit in front but you can take the church in you to the community, work, shopping centre, school, parks, hotel, pubs, homes, street anywhere and everywhere. When the apostles were persecuted and scattered, the bible says they went everywhere preaching the good news of the Kingdom of God. So the church is not just when people gather in a building under one roof. So as they were persecuted and scattered, what they meant for evil caused the gospel to be shared abroad. See the star in others and win souls to the Lord. As a star, no scheme of the devil or wickedness can stop the plan and purpose of God I your life as you continue to stick to the Lord because He is holding you in His hands. As the popular song says “He’s got the whole world in his hands”. So as you worship and celebrate Jesus at Christmas, follow the STAR Jesus by faith and by faith see the star of Christ in everyone especially believers in Christ and give gifts and cards and greetings in whatever way and every way. NOT THE TALENT BUT THE USE OF THE TALENT

GROW IN GRACE

We should walk in the Spirit when it comes to giftings and not use the world’s criteria. It has come to a point when people now do talent shows like X-factor in the church. Such shows though they improve the lots of few, it leaves many frustrated and dejected and actually damage them for life as they go away with some rejection, low self-esteem and even outright looking at themselves less than who they are and basing their whole existence in show acting style competition. These shows compare people. The word of God says those that compare themselves by themselves are foolish. In the Kingdom of God (KOG), all are equal. It different from famous George Orwell’s animal farm where it says some are more equal than others. Not so in the KOG. At the cross all are just equal. That is the simplicity of Christ. He gave gifts or talents to ALL men. No one is better than the other. In the KOG what matters is the use of the talent rather than the number of talents or even the quality of the gifts. Indeed, God says those parts of the body that are not exposed to the limelight are more precious in the sight of God – ouch!! God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. For instance if somebody can sing like Pavarotti or play like Mozart in the church and they are not available for their talents to be used, then such talent is useless before God and He will train someone who has less talent to be able to use that talent to His glory. The Lord says we should not conform to this world but be renewed. It is about transformation rather than conformity. Much of the confusion is that people want to duplicate themselves instead teaching the basics and letting the Holy Spirit help others develop in line with what the Lord has for them. For those who watch football, this is one my strong point against making somebody what they are not. For instance, football is team game. Somebody has to be in goal and others have to play their position. So if in a 90 minutes game the keeper has made many saves, and Wayne Rooney scores the only goal of the match, he is regarded as the man of the match (MOM). Rooney plays position 9, his job in the team is to score goals. Do you expect the keeper to come from his post and score goals? This rarely happens except in penalties. So how is Rooney the man of a match because he scored a goal? So you see Rooney being bought or sold for millions more than the keeper or back players whose role are to defend which most of them do very well. If Rooney scored 2 goals in a match and the keeper let in 3 goals, they will usually not mention any man of the match because the whole team has lost. There are certain criteria that the society use which just promote unnecessary hierarchy and categories which make others feel less than themselves eg status, education, achievement, wealth etc. The Lord says a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possession. In the KOG, the Lord says that the leaders should not exercise authority over their flocks but that those in authority should protect, feed and nourish the flocks under them. Wow! We need to be walking in the wisdom of God. Note that exercising authority is different from discipline which is done in love with the motive of improving a person’s life or future. Exercise of authority is motivated by the ego of the person exercising the authority. The effect of this is that people do not discern by the spirit anymore but they put 2 and 2 together and arrived at conclusion based on what they see, hear, smell, feel or touch. The only way that John the Baptist could identify Jesus was by the Holy Ghost. Let us walk in the spirit as the Bible says. Praise the Lord

Matthew 25

¹⁵And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

¹⁶Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

¹⁷And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

¹⁸But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

¹⁹After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

²⁰And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

²⁵And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

²⁶His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

²⁷Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

²⁸Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

²⁹For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

³⁰And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Halleluya!! How can you neglect so great a salvation! If you are not saved, why don’t you receive what Jesus says.

JESUS SAID AS YOU GO PREACH

Wherever we are and whatever we are doing we are to preach the gospel. This is called preach as you go. Jesus even tells us what to preach and whenever we preach the gospel, the Kingdom of God (KOG) will manifest. Not only that, you do not do anything or pay anything for all the manifestations of the KOG. Above all, God pays and provide for you when you preach the gospel. This should make us preach the gospel with passion. Preach as follows: The Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand (TKOHIAH). Matthew 10:8 is the manifestation of the KOG. It was the same message Jesus told the women who came to seek Him on resurrection morning saying “GO TELL”.

I believe God wants us to preach the gospel everywhere and in every place. You do not have to go shouting in the street or Bible bashing but you can preach by your lifestyle, words, deeds and the difference that Christ’s life in you brings to a situation. Jesus said GO ye into the world and preach the gospel to EVERY creature. It can’t be simpler than that. So you do not have to wait on the Lord for that, you just go knowing that the Lord wants people saved because Jesus has shed His blood to save them. People need to know the gospel so they can be saved. The Bible says how can they believe in whom they have not heard. The Bible also declares that the gospel is still the power of God unto salvation. If people are to be saved, it is the power of the gospel that will do it. We are praying all right but we need to put into action what the Lord says for the fruit to be made manifest – PREACH AS YOU GO

Matthew 10

¹And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

⁵These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

⁶But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

⁷And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

⁸Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

⁹Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

¹⁰Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

¹⁴And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

Halleluya!! How can you neglect so great a salvation! If you are not saved, why don’t you receive what Jesus says.
