HOW TO GET YOUR PRAYER ANSWERED 4
From Sam-Best Ewruje, an able minister of the New Testament, not of man, nor by man, not of blood, nor the will of the flesh, nor the will of man, but by the will of God through the Grace and Mercy of Christ given unto me. Abundance of Grace and Gift of righteousness which is by Grace be unto you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Please be patient to read. It will set you free.
We were dealing with praying past the answer. We said that God has a plan for us. At the appointed time some things will manifest according as God has purposed and in line with His plan and purpose. We used examples of our children that when they are of certain stage they don’t bombard us but we do all it takes ensure to enter school, go to university etc
We have given examples of Daniel and Elijah. Both prayed past the answer. Both were Old Testament saints. Now let us look at one example in the New Testament. This example is what made me title this series “PRAYING PAST THE ANSWER”. Let us see what happened to Peter in Acts 12. Now we cannot put God in a box of formulae of how to and 10 steps or 14 ways. God can do and say what He wants by His sovereignty. Power belongs to God and His Christ.
Now Herod killed James. He then took Peter and put him in jail hoping to kill him after Easter. This is where we must be careful of putting God in box. Some will say just praise God and your prayers will be answered. What we do are not means to an end rather they are part of our relating to God. When Paul and Silas were in prison they sang and prayed. Peter was delivered to 4 quaternions of soldiers. These were Roman soldiers by the way. These were rugged muscular and brutal soldiers who know how to torment and beat. However Peter was sleeping in the midst of the high security jail in chains and between 2 soldiers. One thing was going for Peter.
The church got wiser, they went into the mode of prayer for Peter, so Peter did not have to pray then. He went to sleep. May be he had given up that as Herod killed James he will also kill him. It pleased the people that he killed James anyway. He may have thought there was no escaping with 4 quaternions guarding and 2 directly side by side with him chained to him. However the Church was praying passionately. God came and did His work by His angel. Peter was in a state of stupor because he was not even aware of what was happening. He may have been stripped of his garment. The chains broke, soldiers were paralysed, doors were opened of their own accord, he dressed himself in stupor and only came to himself when he got out into the open.
Now see how the saints of old prayed past the answer. Peter knocked, Rhoda went to answer. She heard Peter’s voice she could not believe herself, became overjoyed and she kept Peter locked outside, went and told the others. She did not even consider that soldiers may have been pursuing Peter. Went she told the others they did not believe. Peter kept knocking the saints kept on praying. Hear me. How can you be praying for something and not expect the answer such that when the answer came they could not even consider that God has answered their prayers. The simple answer is that it was their lifestyle. It was their custom just like Daniel in the Old Testament. The saw prayer as communication with the Father in heaven not as a means to an end. It was a normal thing for them.
Note something else. When they saw Peter they were astonished. They were shocked and amazed. They kept on praying even with the answer right before their face. They wanted to be doubly sure before they stopped praying. It was the same Peter, the answer to their prayers that had to tell them to shut up before they stopped praying. Peter narrated what the Lord has done. Guess what, Herod killed all the soldiers that were supposed to kill Peter.
1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.
15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.
This is the end of this series PRAYING PAST THE ANSWER. It is just to encourage us to keep praying whatever the weather. Even when you are in doubt or fear because of the harassment of the enemy keep praying because your mouth is your communication with God. Anything can happen to anyone but as long as you have your mouth keep talking to God. That is your ladder to heaven. The angels will carry your prayers and ascend and bring answer and descend to you.
